The European Federation of Data Protection Officers (EFDPO) is a European network of national associations of data protection and privacy officers. Our mission is to establish a European representation of interests for DPOs as a partner of institutions such as the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Data Protection Board and national data protection authorities. In doing so, the EFDPO aims to strengthen data protection as a competitive and locational advantage for Europe.
Our Goals
The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) marks a milestone in data protection and is used as a blueprint for similar pieces of legislation across the globe. In view of the GDPR’s impact, the representation of our interests as national associations of data protection officers (DPO) at the European level is becoming increasingly important.
Our main objectives are:
- to create a European network of national associations to exchange information, experience and methods;
- a continuous dialogue with the political sphere, business representatives and civil society to ensure a flow of information from the European to the national level;
- to proactively monitor, evaluate and shape the implementation of the GDPR and other European privacy legal acts;
- to keep the existing rules for DPOs as our minimum objective;
- to promote high qualification standards for DPOs and improve the quality of training and professional practice.
