Annual volunteer meeting of the BvD’s “Privacy Goes to School” initiative once again held digitally

On September 13, 2021, the volunteers of the German initiative “Data Protection Goes to School” (“Datenschutz geht zur Schule”) – initiiated by German EFDPO member association BvD – met for a constructive exchange at the the so-called Lecturers’ Day (Dozent*innentag). The agenda of this annual event – which had to be held digitally for the second year in a row due to the pandemic – included expert presentations on current data protection issues, in particular on learning and communication platforms, which also trained the more thasn 50 participants for their further voluntary work in schools.

Data protection supervisory authorities from three German states also supported the initiative and its goals.

The initiative “Data Protection Goes to School” was launched in 2009 by German EFDPO member association BvD and is being continued by its non-profit organization privacy4people since 2020. Its goal is to raise awareness among students from fifth grade to vocational school students about how to use the Internet and modern communication media. Since the initiative was launched, more than 90,000 students have been made aware of the need to handle their personal data safely and consciously.
