On 20.7.2023, the European Federation of Data Protection Officers in cooperation with the Czech Data Protection Association organized a seminar on “Metaverse From The Perspective of Legal Regulation and Data Protection”. The topic was presented by Jana Pattynová, member of the Czech Data Protection Association Committee and a partner at the law firm Pierstone, and her colleague Karina Matevosjanová.
Jana and Karina provided the attendees with insights into the latest developments in the Metaverse and the Spatial Computing and the biggest regulatory challenges, not only in Data Protection issues, but also in related fields such as the regulation of the Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Decentralized Economy and IP Law. Recently published documents related to the Metaverse were discussed in detail, in particular the study published in June by the European Parliament.
The seminar also addressed the issues related to the Data Protection , e.g. the legal basis of processing, in particular from the perspective of biometric data processing and the challenges that this completely new environment will bring for DPOs, law makers and other compliance professionals.
